Description

These crispy oven-fried halloumi bites are golden, crunchy, salty, sweet, and spicy! Baked instead of deep-fried, they have a satisfying crunch with a gooey center. Drizzled with homemade hot honey, they make the perfect appetizer, snack, or salad topping.

For the Halloumi Bites:

  • 1 block (8 oz) halloumi cheese, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the Hot Honey:

  • ¼ cup honey
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    • Set oven to 425°F (220°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Breading Stations:

    • In a bowl, whisk the eggs.
    • In another bowl, mix Panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan, paprika, black pepper, and sesame seeds.
  3. Coat the Halloumi:

    • Dip each halloumi cube in the egg, ensuring it’s fully coated.
    • Roll in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Bake Until Golden:

    • Arrange the coated halloumi cubes on the baking sheet, spaced apart.
    • Drizzle with olive oil for crispiness.
    • Bake for 10–12 minutes, flip, then bake for another 10 minutes until golden and crispy.
  5. Make the Hot Honey:

    • In a small saucepan over low heat, warm the honey.
    • Stir in red pepper flakes, apple cider vinegar, and salt.
    • Simmer for 1–2 minutes, then remove from heat.
  6. Serve & Enjoy:

    • Drizzle the hot honey over the crispy halloumi bites.
    • Serve with dips like spicy mayo, garlic yogurt, or hummus.

  • For extra crispiness, cook in an air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes.
