For the Cake:

Instructions

Step 1: Bake the Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  4. Stir in vanilla, then alternate adding dry ingredients and milk until fully combined.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Let cakes cool completely before decorating.

Step 2: Prepare Buttercream Frosting

  1. Beat butter until smooth.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well.
  3. Stir in milk and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Divide frosting into separate bowls and tint with food coloring as needed.

Step 3: Assemble & Decorate

  1. Stack the cake layers with a thin layer of buttercream in between.
  2. Use green frosting for the base color of the dinosaur landscape.
  3. Roll fondant into dinosaur shapes or use edible dinosaur toppers.
  4. Pipe brown frosting for tree trunks, use chocolate rocks for decoration, and add final details with edible markers or extra frosting.
